PTO Involvement & Contribution Drive - Frequently Asked Questions
Why participate in the Friends of Kate Sessions PTO activities?
Every parent is welcome and encouraged to attend PTO meetings. There is never a charge to attend meetings, and there is always free childcare! PTO meetings are the best place to become informed about how your contributions are spent. Attending PTO meetings does NOT obligate you to volunteer. It does however demonstrate your support for our teachers, staff and the best possible education for your child.
What is the Contribution Drive?
The Contribution Drive is a direct giving campaign designed to raise money at the beginning of the school year. A successful Contribution Drive will ensure the PTO’s ability to continue providing programs that directly support all Sessions students. Our Contribution Drive goal this year is $30,000.
100% of your donation will go directly to supporting the children. AND...All donations are 100% tax deductible. TAX ID No. 33-0089369.
Why do we need the Contribution Drive? Isn’t this supposed to be a “free” public school education?
Our school district covers the basic needs such as classrooms facilities, textbooks, teacher & support staff, technology, Spanish program, etc. We must rely heavily on parent and community donations in order to offer the Art, Music & Library Programs, support student benefits such as assemblies, classroom wish lists, additional playground equipment, lap tracker, field trips, plus subscription services like Channel One News, Reading Eggs, Scholastic Magazines, and so much more. Please note that donations to the PTO are completely voluntary, and that every student benefits from our programs and events.
May I donate any amount?
We ask you to give at a level that is comfortable for your family. Since 100% of our students benefit from these programs, it makes sense that 100% of our families should help pay for them. A Monthly payment option is available (see weekly newsletter for details). We also welcome corporate "Matching Gifts" or grants, and additional donations from family and friends. We as a community are building a future for our children and our school. NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL. EVERY GIFT IS IMPORTANT.
What does the PTO budget for? Why $250 per student?
Every parent should understand how their financial contributions will be spent, and how the money we raise this year will benefit your child’s education. For more detailed information on this year’s budget, please plan to attend the next PTO meeting.
Here is a brief summary for the 2016-2017 school year:
IB SUPPORT: Art, Music & Library Programs |
$ 80,200 |
Classroom Enhancement (assembles, field trips, classroom wish lists, tutoring, online learning programs, educational magazines, and more) |
$ 33,300 |
Community Building (Day at the Bay, campus beautification, Parent Math Night, Friendship Dance, Talent Show, Spelling Bee, Science Night) |
$ 11,500 |
TOTAL |
$ 125,000 |
Cost per Student |
$ 250 |
Total expenses divided by the estimated number of students equates to approximately $250 per student. For $25 a month, you can make a visible difference in your child's education. You can choose to donate now or spread your contribution throughout the year amongst all of the various fundraisers.
Remember all donations are confidential. There are many ways to support the programs at Sessions. The PTO needs volunteers, donations, and fresh ideas to continue bringing these great programs and activities to our school.
I have 3 kids at Sessions. Does that mean I should donate $750?
The goal of $250 was calculated PER student, so in an ideal world we would love to see $750. We ask you to give at a level that is comfortable for your family, we welcome all donations in any amount.
What other fundraisers should I expect to see at Sessions this year?
Halloween Carnival Wristbands, Book Fairs, Yearbook Sales, Spirit Wear
Restaurant Nights, Boxtops for Education and shopping programs like: Amazon Smile, Ralphs, igive, and Target.
How do I donate?
Donations can be cash, check, debit or credit card. Credit card payments can be as a one-time donation at this link or set up ten (10) monthly payments visit this link.
Cash or Check donations should be turned in to the PTO mailbox in the front office lobby or to your child's classroom teacher by Thursday October 6th. Please be sure to include your child’s name and room number on the envelope.
Will I get a receipt?
Receipts will be sent home with your child. The TAX ID# is 33-0089369 for your records. The Friends of Kate Sessions PTO is a 501(c)3 organization.
Where can I ask questions about the PTO?
Please plan to attend the next PTO meeting or you may contact our PTO President, Nancy Crescenzo-Kulij sessionspresident@gmail.com at any time.
